SYNOPSIS
Victoria Steyn, a self pretentious and financially privileged young woman is haunted by the manifestations of her personal insecurities. Her inner demons become a reality as she must deal with numerous versions of herself that appear before her, sending her on a spiraling journey down the rabbit hole. Will she come out a survivor, or be left alone with her detrimental consciousness?
The Mirror is an experimental short film that explores the nature of insecurity that is prevalent in the world today. I read a quote that said “A theme is a writer’s interpretation of life”. This resonated with me as the theme of The Mirror is primarily that ‘Societal pressures have a direct and indirect impact on the physical insecurities that people have’. In the film I wanted to explore the dark nature of insecurity, by exposing truths about how detrimental it can be to see yourself in a negative and pessimistic manner. Due to the film being experimental as a way of going about the genre, I wanted to use this as an opportunity to artistically show the was in which these pressures can affect someones life and in many cases take over their mentality.
